CAMPAGNA LUPIA

An agricultural area, facing the Romea highway. It still has some original attractions, like the area of the fishing valleys and the lagoon, some of which are protected and can be visited, and important pre-Roman and Roman remains, especially in Lova and Lugo. The most important green and wetland areas are in Valle Averto, now a WWF reserve that can be visited, where there are protected animal species and you can learn about life in the fishing valleys. . Sailing on the water you can see the casoni (fishermen’s homes) on the lagoon, including the extremely original one in Valle Zappa.

There are, however, only a few relics of its historical origins: a prehistoric boat, votive bronzes, coins and various finds from the Roman settlement that grew up in Lova, then located on Via Popillia. Most of these finds are kept today in the Lugo church.

Worth Visiting

  • The Church of Saints Pietro e Paolo, rebuilt in the 15th century and restored to its current appearance in 1760

  • Villa Colonda Marchesini (once Zorzi) from the 16th century, restored in 1984 by the municipal administration and used as the town hall

  • The Archaeological Museum of Santa Maria in Lugo, created in partnership with the Veneto Archaeological Superintendency

  • MUS.TE.LA. – the Lova Ethnographic Museum

The WWF Oasis of Valle Averto is a typical Venetian lagoon fishing valley and the only one where hunting is forbidden. The Valle Averto nature reserve is located on Site of Community Importance in the municipality of Campagna Lupia. It is also a Special Protection Area covering around 200 hectares, including large expanses of brackish water, reed beds, damps forests and canals inside the world’s most famous wetland.
