THE PO RIVER
The most important river in Italy
The Po defines the boundaries between three regions: Lombardy, Emilia Romagna and Veneto. It traverses important cities of northern Italy and “riveraschi” municipalities, that is municipalities brushed by the river; there are 183 in total. Its history has seen overflows and floods which have devastated entire regions. Its delta has created a natural habitat deemed one of the most important in Europe. Both Veneto and Emilia Romagna have turned the delta park into a location which attracts many nature lovers. The rich fishing fauna and varied flora make the Po stand out from other water ways. The river is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
