ARIANO NEL POLESINE

The name of Ariano probably derives from Atria, now Adria, an ancient Etruscan city by the sea. The name was changed to Ariano in the Middle Ages after the Ficarolo flood that formed the western part of the island of the same name. The area has always been crossed by important trade routes, given the logistics and relationships of the time between the Byzantine Empire, the Venetian, the Este family and the Papacy.
