NOVENTA DI PIAVE

An ancient town and cargo port on the Piave River, with recently discovered Roman remains, including a villa and buildings from the first centuries C.E., with mosaic floors. It flourished under the Venetians, and villas and religious buildings were added. However, it was also the site of violent World War I battles that caused a great deal of destruction. The parish church still has its holy decorations and statues, and there are ancient oratories.
