LIDO DI VENEZIA

The island of Lido is the place where the pure air heightens the unforgettable colours of sunrises over the sea and sunsets over the lagoon. Every season has its own colours that are represented by the nature that fills this wonderful corner of the Venice Lagoon. In just ten minutes, you can reach St Mark’s Square, which draws tourists from all over the world. Here, you can relax by strolling on the fine sand of gorgeous beaches that directors like Luchino Visconti and Sergio Leone immortalised in their films.

Pellestrina is a thin barrier over 11 kilometres long between the Adriatic Sea and the lagoon, protected from the raging waters by the Murazzi, one of the most powerful sea defences that the Venetian Republic built in the 18th century to save its city. Filled with vegetable gardens and small colourful houses, the island is a real pearl of nature and human ingenuity, a fascinating place where there is still a close relationship between people and the lagoon. It is no coincidence that even today (albeit in very small numbers) female lace-makers still sit on their doorsteps and weave lace with their bobbins and tombolo, surrounded by intense and forgotten scents, and by the long lagoon where you can admire spectacular sunsets.

Worth Visiting

The coastline of the Venice Lido Island features the 18th-century Murazzi, a defence against the sea.

The Casino and Palazzo del Cinema are perfect venues to host the city’s many social and cultural events, the most important of which is the Venice Film Festival.
