MIRANO

Mirano gives its name to the central area of the Metropolitan City of Venice, once ‘Il Miranese’, now Terra dei Tiepolo. . Its historic centre features porticoed houses and lots of Venetian villas with extensive grounds, some of which surround the town centre itself. The whole centre is worth a visit, including the parks, and especially the Castelletto (little castle), a romantic-style fake ruin with an octagonal tower. It is a small, deliberately ruined fortification with an underground grotto, part of which connects to the little lake. Among the many villas, there is also Villa Tiepolo owned by the family of the great artists and entirely frescoed by Giandomenico Tiepolo (works include Mondo Novo and the Pulcinella series).

Mirano is also well known for its many original events, like the Antiques Market (3rd Sunday of the month), the Fiera de l’Oca with the ‘Zogo de l’Oca’ (the ‘Goose Games’), the Flower Festival and the Mirano Chicory Festival.
