TORRE DI MOSTO

The area of Torre di Mosto, once crossed by the Via Annia from Rome to Aquileia, featured a turris (tower) erected by the Romans in the 5th century as a defence against barbarian raids. In 1411, the village of Torre, which once had a chapel dedicated to St Martin and a mighty defensive tower erected by the Doges, was completely destroyed by the Ongari.

The tower and the village were rebuilt with the help of the noble Venetian family Da Mosto, who gave their name to the village. Today Torre di Mosto is a place that boasts craftsmanship, industry and tourism – the latter thanks to promoting its historical and cultural heritage (the Landscape Museum in Loc. Boccafossa) – as well as nature (with farm accommodation, river itineraries and parks) and also food and wine (including the famous Livenza bisàt – eels).
